SmartTAP Customer Assistance
With the advancement of technology, C TRAN is able to introduce an electronic fare payment system to better serve our customers. Customers can now choose which type of SmartTAP card they prefer: "disposable" or "reloadable". There is no fee for the disposable cards, which may only be purchased at a ticket vending machine or in person at the C TRAN Administrative Office. Disposable cards are discarded after the term purchased has expired. There is a one-time $5/fee for a reloadable card. The reloadable cards have a lifespan of 8-10/years and should be reloaded with product. Products offered include "Period Passes" and "Pay As You Go (PAYG)" stored value that deducts cash fare according to the C TRAN cash fare structure.
The advantage of this system is product can be purchased in advance and pending product will automatically replenish after active product has expired, therefore customers are not constrained to purchase on specific days/times. Register with e-mail for maximum protection, ability to purchase and check card balance online anytime.
C TRAN will continue to have cash fare boxes available on the buses, however our goal is to make your experience with public transit in Chemung County convenient, safe & efficient.

Products:
C TRAN offers two types of SmartTAP cards: Disposable (D) and Reloadable (R).
Disposable cards are pre-loaded with local period passes and activate the first day tapped on the bus remaining valid until midnight the day of expiration and discarded. Reloadable cards have a one-time fee of $5.00 and if properly cared for can be loaded with product for 8-10/years.
Period Passes - Local (Navy) Products:

31-Day Reduced Fare Pass.....(R).....$45.00 *Initial card must be made in person. Refer to Reduced Fare Policies & Procedures.
Pay As You Go (PAYG) options available to Navy Full Fare and Reduced Fare Reloadable cardholders. Added stored value is deducted according to the C TRAN Fare Structure and can be purchased in the vending machines in $5 increments or online for a maximum of $200.

Commuter (all access) cards can travel on all C TRAN routes. After initial purchase (not available online) and utilized on the bus at least once, customers must contact Customer Service at (607) 734-5212 with e-mail (required) to register card with staff to be able to reload. Reloads after registration can be made via ALL sales locations.
All customers who possess Navy reloadable cards are able to have one "active" period pass and two pending and up to $200 PAYG.

Customers will receive an e-mail to password protect their account and to verify the SmartTAP Card# and registration.
If a registered Reloadable SmartTAP Card is lost, stolen or damaged, there is a $5.00 replacement fee. Click here to report the issue online 24/7 by simply login to your account under "Existing Customer", "Manage Your Card" and select "Replace Card" button. Complete the process by following the prompts. Please allow 2-5 business days to receive your replacement card.
Customers that do NOT register Reloadable SmartTAP Cards will NOT be able to reclaim any loss. Disposable passes are non-refundable and are unable to be replaced.
SmartTAP Vending Machines:
The SmartTAP Vending Machine is touch screen and offers new disposable and reloadable products. Select the product you want and follow the prompts. If you are reloading, after paying using cash, credit/debit be prepared to IMMEDIATELY target your SmartTAP reloadable card so your fare will be added to your card after purchase before the machine times out.
The machines are only able to accept $1, $5, $10 and $20 bills. If you utilize $1 bills the machine will only accept 15 at one time. The vending machine is NOT an ATM. Change is dispensed in limited coin refunds.
Once the purchase is complete, tap your card on the target to check the card balance. Reloadable cards will display what period passes and stored value (PAYG) products are uninitialized (not yet activated), active (expiration date) & number of pending passes.
