C TRAN strives to make riding the bus convenient, affordable, and accessible for our passengers.

Holiday Service Schedule

C TRAN buses do not operate on New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.  Limited service (routes #9, #7, and #12) is provided on Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.

Riders who have a disability, who are 60 years of age or older (Senior Citizen), or who hold Services Imagea Medicare card, can ride for half the regular fare and/or Route Deviation/Demand Response Service. Access Chemung

A new pilot shared, curb to curb bus service connecting seniors and people with disabilities with accessible transportation to employment and medical appointments.*

WHO: This new, pilot service is a private pay option for seniors 60 and older or a person with a disability people who needs a wheelchair accessible vehicle to get to non-Medicaid medical appointments such as dialysis (Medicaid recipients have transportation as a covered service and are not eligible for this program for medical appointments). Also, trips will be provided to a person with a disability traveling for employment. You must be an approved applicant to utilize this service.  Applications will be reviewed by the Chemung County Office of Aging and Long Term Care, the Chemung County Volunteer Action Corps, or the Chemung County Mobility Manager.

What is the fare: The fare is $15 each way and service will be provided by a wheelchair accessible bus.  If you do not require accessible transportation, there are other services such as taxi, which may be a more economical option.

Where: Service is provided within Chemung County and to Robert Packer Hospital or Corning Hospital. Service is curb to curb, and there is no additional charge for an aide or family member who may be accompanying you for your appointment.

When: Reservations are requested 3 days in advance, but not later than 2PM the day prior to the needed ride. Service hours are: Monday – Friday 5:30AM-8:30PM. Reservations may be made from 8:00AM-4:00PM. A time will be set to pick-up for your return trip; however, if you are finished early or late, call 734-5211 to adjust your pick up time.

Why: This pilot transportation option is being developed to fill a gap in service identified by residents and the Chemung County Coordinated Transportation Committee.  Accessible transportation is difficult for people who do not live on bus routes or are not covered by Medicaid to access critical medical care.  Current accessible transportation can be more expensive and this service is intended to be an additional accessible transportation option.

* Some restrictions apply and the rider must be an approved applicant.  Applications are available from Chemung Volunteer Action Corps, Chemung County Office of Aging and Long Term Care or the Chemung County Mobility Manager.

 Youth

Children 5 years and under ride free if they are accompanied by an adult (limit 3 children per adult).  Youth ages 6-18 can ride for half fare. High school students must show a high school I.D. or photo I.D. for proof of age. College I.D.s are not accepted.

On Request Stop Service

On selected routes, places such as nursing and/or health care facilities, schools, apartment complexes, and other institutions have been established as "on request" stops. To use the On Request Stop Service, riders can either direct their request to the Bus Operator upon boarding the bus for their trip or by calling our customer service department at 607-734-5211. Route Deviation Service Program

C TRAN offers curbside pick-up service through its Route Deviation Service Program. If you are a person living within 3/4 of a mile of a bus route, you may qualify for curbside service. The fare for Route Deviation is double the regular fixed route fare, $3.50 or $1.70 if you qualify for Half Fare. Monthly or semester passes do not apply toward payment of Route Deviation. To schedule a Route Deviation trip, call our Customer Service Department at 607-734-5211 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. For next day service, your request must be made by 5:00 p.m. the previous day. Route Deviation is not provided to the following commuter routes: #10 Elmira-Owego, #20 Elmira-Corning and #30 Elmira-Ithaca.

Route and Stop Announcements

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) requires the announcement of all time points, transfer points, and points that service more than one route. C TRAN bus operators will announce all such time points and transfer points listed on public schedules approximately 1/2 block in advance.

Bus Buddies

We have volunteers, who are experienced bus riders that provide individualized training to a person who wants to become a rider.  They assist with providing the skills to travel safely and independently on public transportation. Contact the Chemung Volunteer Actions Corps at 607-734-4161, Getting There program or the Mobility Manager at 734-5211 to see if this service will work for you.
